VHS video (30 minutes) with narrator Bill Penhale interviewing selected Fergus residents including Bob Kerr, James Kerr, Pat Mestern and Art Lee; Using historic documents (sketches by Fordyce and early photos, he traces the history of Fergus from its founding by Fergusson and Webster as "Little Falls" with soil and water resources, lumber and limestone; he continues with beginnings of Beatty Bros. Ltd. and the arrival of the railway; Bob Kerr narrates and is shown in Templin Gardens; pictures and discussion of the Beatty Bros. Plant now the site of the Fergus Market and the company's connection with the Fergus Swimming Pool; James Gow speaks of his his relatives who helped build the town and the influence of Scottish architecture; Pat Mestern speaks of her historical fiction and her novels where characters and incidents are drawn from local history; mention of Fergus Curling Club and Dr. Abraham Groves, the writings of A. D. Ferrier and St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, and George Clephane; Art Lee speaks of the Fergus Brass Band which is shown in a marching parade; John Allan Cameron is shown opening Fergus Highland Games; several shots of Fergus architecture, streetscape, Grand River and scenes of the Fergus Market and Fergus Highland Games (Textual material location: MU 430) |
