Description |
Documents related to the Fixter, Scott, and McPhatter families of Puslinch Township, and of the Awde family of Haldimand County, 1867-1940. Henry Fixter was born 17 July 1867 in Leverton, Lincolnshire, England and worked there as a police officer. He emigrated to Canada about 1890 and found employment at the Experimental Farm in Ottawa. In 1898 he wed Margaret Jane Scott of Puslinch Township. Margaret was the daughter of John Scott and Margaret McPhatter. The 1901 Census shows the Scott family living in Puslinch Township. John and Margaret Scott were living with their sons Marten and John, and with daughter Margaret Fixter, her husband Henry, and their son Scott H[allingdale] Fixter (born 23 June 1900 in Ottawa). Scott would grow up to wed Evelyn Victoria Awde of Haldimand County in 1930, and the two of them would stay in the Puslinch/Guelph area and raise their family there. item 1: Marriage certificate, 1867. Handwritten by Rev. John Hogg in ink on plain white paper and dated Guelph, 19 March 1867. "I hereby certify that I married, at Guelph, according to the laws of the Church of Scotland, on the 19th March 1867, Mr. John Scott to Miss Margaret McPhatter, both of Puslinch...". Witnesses were David Stewart of Guelph and Christina McPhatter of Puslinch. item 2: Marriage certificate, 1898. Handritten by Rev. W. Robertson in ink on a pre-printed certificate, dated Puslinch, 25 May 1898 re. marriage of Henry Fixter of Ottawa to Margaret Jane Scott of Puslinch Township. [for their wedding portrait, see ART 873]. item 3: Motor Vehical Operator's License Renewal, 1929. Province of Ontario driver's license for Evelyn Aude of Lot 21, Concession 10, Walpole near Hagersville, Haldimand County, dated 31 January 1929. item 4: Dominion Bank receipt, 1930. Receipt issued by the Dominion Bank on 15 October 1930 for $22.05 to be paid to the Manufacturers Life Insurance Co. [receipt was kept in a folder together with the papers of Evelyn Awde who married Scott Fixter in 1930. item 5: Registration Certificate, 1940. Certificate of registration produced by National Registration Regulations, and dated 19 August 1940. It certifies that Mrs. Evelyn Victoria Fixter of polling division 4 - Puslinch, electoral district 155 - Wellington South, had been registered. Card sized to be kept in wallet. |
