Slides made by Gordon Couling, 30 May 1977, of a book open to an ink sketch of Guelph by Edwin Whitefield (1816-1892); drawn ca. 1865. Book was in an archives or museum collection [possibly that of the Royal Ontario Museum; accession number visible lower right: 955.215.2u ]. Written on card accompanying slides, "Edwin Whitefield / 1816-1892". British/American artist, Edwin Whitefield, was born in Dorset, England in on 22 September 1816. He emigrated to the United States in 1838, and specialized in producing lithographs and illustrated books of cities and North American architecture.
