Description |
When WW II broke out, 3 Sept. 1939, Dr. Robert Meiklejohn (of Harriston) was on the staff at St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, having recently returned from post-graduate training in England. On 21 June 1940, he was appointed medical officer at Camp Borden. After service at Halifax, then Niagara Camp, Debert Camp (Truro), and a trip to Saskatchewan, Dr. Meiklejohn sailed for England 25 Sept. 1942 where he servied until Oct. 1943. From November 1943 - March 1945, he was in Italy. From 8 - 20 March, he accompanied the First Canadian Corps (The "D" Day Dodgers) from Italy to Holland, to form with Second Canadian Corps, the First Canadian Army. March - September was spent in Holland. After return to Canada, Dr. Meiklejon was discharged 11 Oct. 1945. 72+ pages, plus 3-page index of names.
