Cards, correspondence, scrapbook, 1928-1986. SERIES 1: A.E. BYERLY, CARDS AND CORRESPONDENCE, 1928-1956. Dr.. Alpheus Byerly (1894-1960) was a doctor of osteopathy who practiced in Fergus, Ontario, from 1921-1924, and in Guelph from 1924 until his death in 1960. He was the author of "Fergus or the Fergusson - Webster Settlement With An Extensive History of North-east Nichol" (Elora: Elora Express, 1934) and "The Beginning of Things in Wellington and Waterloo Counties With Particular Reference to Guelph, Galt and Kitchener" (Guelph: Guelph Publishing Company, 1935); Cards contain news and information, or by reflection, events in the lives of the Byerly family; included are Christmas, Easter, St. Patrick's Day, Birthday, Mother's Day, Valentine cards. - file 1: Cards exchanged between Dr. A.E. Byerly ("Doc"), his sister Zelma Elizabeth Byerly (1896-1989), and his mother, Clara Belle Howie Byerly (1863-1936), 1928-1949. - file 2: Cards addressed to A.E. Byerly or Alpheus or Doc, sometimes "Dear Friend," from writers who cannot be identified as family; includes cards from Irene and Walter Tyson; Flora and Elmore Reaman; Findlay Weaver; Augusta I. G. Gilkison; Mackenzie King; several of the cards are colour reproductions of paintings by Canadian artists; 1929-1956. - file 3: Cards from Byerly relations; includes cards and letters from those who write Dear Aunt, Uncle, Cousin or identify themselves similarly or sign themselves with the Byerly name, 1931-1945. - file 4: Invitation and Dance Programme card from the Triple Link Club and the Irvine Glen Club, for the 12th Annual New Year's Eve Euchre - Frolic - Dance, in the Armoury Hall, Elora, Tuesday, Dec. 31st, 1935; Willis Tipping and his Blue Dragoons Nine-piece Band; Cards 8:15, Dancing 10:30, Admission 75c each. - file 5: Cards to Dr. A.E. Byerly from the daughter of the Reverend Patrick Bell, Janie Bell, Aberdeen Scotland, ca.1950-1955; she died shortly after, according to a note in the hand of A.E. Byerly; includes letter to Pat Mestern from Isabel Stuart, from the same address, 16 Feb 1985; includes photocopies of biographical entries for Patrick Bell (1799-1869).
