Lieut-Col. James J. Craig's funeral cortege walking south down St. David Street South in Fergus, Ontario, 29 May 1929. Visible at right is the stone building known as the Groves Block, located on the south east corner of St. David Street and St. Andrew Street. Hotel visible at the north-east corner of intersection. Also present are soldiers and military band playing music. James J. Craig was born in 1853 in Glengarry County to James Craig and Flora McLeod. He had lived in Fergus for over 40 years, had worked as the Public School Inspector, and at time of his death on 27 May 1929, was 76 years old. He was buried on 29 May 1929. A similar photograph to these was published in the Fergus News Record of 06 June 1929 with the heading "Funeral of Late Lieut-Col. J.J. Craig". |
