St. Joseph's Hospital in Guelph Township as it appeared in 1862, drawing by Gordon Couling, ca. 1968. Gordon Couling (1913-1984) was a Guelph-based artist, art historian, and professor at the Ontario Agricultural College / University of Guelph. He served as Chair of the University's Fine Art Department, and had a keen interest in local history, arts, and architecture. 91 x 139 cm. [ MRA 6 ] This drawing therefore may be a cartoon for a mural that Couling installed at St. Joseph's Hospital in Guelph. [See also A1988.58.8] File 1: Black and blue ink wash and charcoal with chemical drawing on paper, ca. 1968. Titled "1862 Building," it depicts St. Joseph's Hospital, a two and a half storey building with turret and steep gable. Other buildings in background. At right of Hospital is shown a large bell identified as "The Old Hospital Bell". Sketches of nuns beneath image of hospital. |
