30 black and white prints, from negatives taken by Hugh Templin in and around Fergus, Ontario, most during the Fergus Centennial parade, 1933. Shown are Fergus bridges, streetscapes, and architecture. Among parade floats are the Fergus Branch of the Imperial Bank of Canada; Speedside Baseball team; [Fergus Brass?] Band. Also Fergus fire fighters with truck, 1933 Centennial Cairn; print of oil painting of Adam Fergusson; fire at [Templin Carriage Works?]; Fergus arena; road work, downtown Fergus; Russell's store; autogiro, location unknown; Hay's; Beatty Bros. ph 12752: Exterior of Fergus Arena, St. George Street. ph 12753: St. Andrew's Church seen between two stone buildings. ph 12754: Photo of a framed painting of portrait of Adam Fergusson (co-founder of Fergus) which is resting against a building, sitting in the dirt. ph 12755: Two boys playing on an aeroplane with front propeller and helicopter-like blades on top. ph 12756: Horse-drawn cart travelling along a road with buildings in behind. Cart is decked out in Union and Red Ensign flags, and carries people, and a banner that reads, "Hay's from away back / Vancouver Saskatoon Winnipeg / Hamilton Guelph -- What Have You?". Parked car also visible. ph 12757: Looking down a tree-lined residential street. ph 12758: People milling about burned-out shell of a stone building. There are several sacks piled up in and outside the building. A horse-drawn cart and other buildings visible on right. A car is parked imediately in front of the building. ph 12759: Little boy on porch of brick home sits and watches band in highland dress perform in field across the road. Two horses visible at right. ph 12760: People in naval costume aboard a float shaped like a naval ship, outfitted with flags. Sign reads, "Fergus - Our Pride - It's British". ph 12761: Looking across Tower Street Bridge towards Melville United Church with horse-drawn wagon parked out front. ph 12762: Two elderly people in an automobile driving past the brick house in ph 12759. Man is walking in front of car. ph 12763: Looking down/up Grand River towards bridge. ph 12764: Wooden ship with sails lowered, secured with barrels on a shore. Tripod over fire beside ship on beach [at Moose Factory?]. ph 12765: People aboard Irish float depicting thatched cottage with sign, "Begorra We're not ALL Scotch! Hence the Pretty Girls..." ph 12766: Road construction on St. Andrew's street with aid of steam-driven machine. Team of horses visible at left. Signs on shops visible for "[?]ewing, J. Thomson & Son Undertaking, and McHardy's Hardware". ph 12767: Team of horses pulling cart and driver past brick house. ph 12768: Girls skipping by Russell's clothing store, St. Andrew St. ph 12769: Beatty Bros. Ltd., float, Fergus Centennial parade, 1933. Signs read, "A Century of Progress!"; "[O]ne of Us Put Her There"; "The War on Dirt!"; "Beatty Electrical Appliances, Easier to Operate, Do Faster and Better Work, Last Longer". On left is truck carrying baseball players and sign, "Speedside Baseball Team 1933". ph 12773: Float in parade; four military men being pulled by ox-cart and farmer. ph 12774: Fergus Fire Department standing on and beside their truck, parked beside a church. ph 12775: Float in parade; horse pulling cart on which sit men holding buckets. A couple of men holding buckets are running with the cart. White stucco house and car visible behind. ph 12776: Beatty Bros. Ltd float in parade, featuring women doing housework while men watch. Signs at back read, "Which one of Us Put Her There?", "The War on Dirt!", We Bring Health and Happiness". ph 12777: Road construction at intersection next to the Wellington Hotel. Other businesses also visible. ph 12778: Boy on sled by picket fence under trees heavily laden with snow. Stone house visible behind. ph 12779: Three white sided buildings with white picket fences, Moose Factory, northern Ontario. ph 12780: Boy leaning against Centennial cairn in park, Tower Street at Bridge Street. ph 12781: Concrete bowstring bridge over river. |
