Description |
Rott / Root family, Erin Township, pencil sketch, photographs, ca.1867-1985. SEE ART 1314 in Objects Catalogue. A pencil drawing which depicts a two-storey brick house with gingerbread trim and window shutters. The house is located at Lot 17, Con 7, Erin Township. There is a rear board-and-batten addition; a man with an axe stands next to an open door, showing firewood; a dog stands in the snow[?]. The artist's signature, lower left is: "J.E. McKee 24 December 1880." The date would suggest that the drawing was perhaps created as a Christmas gift. [STORED AC 17 ] The following Cabinet cards and Cartes-de-visite were removed from an album with a blue cover and a fabric construction of multicoloured birds, lined up on a branch, attached to the cover. A photocopy of the album was made before removing the photographs. The number in square brackets refers to the pages, as numbered by the cataloguer. Throughout, on the early cartes-de-visite and cabinet cards, the surname is written as Rott and Root. It is hard to be accurate; their early land records (see A2019.147.2) were often signed with an "X." - ph 55295: [2] Cabinet Card. Sarah Ann Miller (1814-1895); wife of Henry Rott.
