This 9-page essay tells the life-story of William Herbert Philp, (1841-1925), who "founded a minor musical dynasty that continued in Guelph through the 1950s and that spread throughout North America". Includes 11 full-page illustrations (photocopies). He was first married to Harriott Sweeting (1845-1885) and then to Elizabeth Leadley. A son of William and Elizabeth was Norman Lewis Philp, born in Chatham 1896, and also active in the musical life of Guelph, as was his son, Richard, author of this essay. |
