Rockwood Public School / Rockwood Continuation School / Rockwood Centennial Public School, photos 1898-1971. School Section. No.9, Eramosa Twp., was formed in 1871, carved from numbers 1, 2, 7 and 8. An earlier frame building was followed by one of stone, to which a 2nd storey was added in 1930 allowing the Continuation School to open in September of that year. The Continuation school closed in September of 1946 and students went to Guelph by bus. A fourth room was opened in 1951 and the old school was replaced when Rockwood Centennial School opened in 1967. Celebrations were held in 1977 (10th anniversary) and in 1992 (25th anniversary). Many photos, but not all have an identification "menu board" - either handwritten or with movable letters; images are black and white, unless otherwise noted. George F. Day (1913-1998) is responsible for collecting much of the information. It is notable that Grant McCrae arrived in 1964 (as a teacher, later Principal) and appears in the Staff photograph for 1990-1991. - ph 22586: 1898.
