Carry-On Women's Institute, minutes, Tweedsmuir History, scrapbooks, printed materials, 1929-2019. Carry-On W.I. was founded 18 August 1938, as a branch in North Wellington District. The organization followed on from Carry-On Girls' Club, which had been founded in 1919. Minutes have been recorded in notebooks issued for that purpose by the Ontario Women's Institutes. They also contain Records of Meetings (with topic and/or speaker); cash Receipts and Expenditures; annual Financial Statements (a copy of which was forwarded to District Secretary); lists of Officers and Directors, and Membership (all with Palmerston, or Rural Route Palmerston addresses). [MU 1591] SERIES 3: TWEEDSMUIR HISTORY, 2001-2019. [MU 1591] [Since this volume is labelled a Tweedsmuir History, it might reasonably be considered to follow the first two - see A2015.39.2. But since the page scans are being filed as part of the Women's Institute Tweedsmuir History Online Collection it is been treated as Scrapbook 11, thus following scrapbook 10.] The pages have been removed from a 3-ring binder and scanned in order. They consist of colour photographs and colour and b&w newspaper clippings and illustrations of business and commercial events in the Palmerston area, along with activities in which the Carry-On Branch WI were engaged or represented. On front cover "Audrey Connell." - Item 9: Nine leaflets advertising one-day workshops produced by the Women's Institute Educational Committee, 1990 - 2007. Includes list of workshops and their leaders; they were mainly held at Melville United Church in Fergus, but some were held in Harriston United Church or Palmerston Christian Reformed Church. - Item 10: part of a cereal package advertising "honey Shreddies au miel ... tastes great in any language." The illustration is a word search game for over 20 ways of indicating "honey" in another language. SERIES 5: PHOTOS, POSTCARD, 1942; 1997. [STACKS PHOTOS] - ph 61156, ph 61157 and ph 61158: Three b&w prints showing men and women, standing and seated, having a picnic. Thought to be a Carry-On Women's Institute picnic in Guelph, probably 1942. - ph 61159a and ph 61159b: Colour postcard showing the provincial office of the Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario [FWIO], 7382 Wellington Road 30, R.R. 5, Guelph, Ontario, N1H 6J2. The card was produced by the Prince Edward District W.I., Picton, Ontario 1997. The image of the 1 1/2 storey farmhouse is surrounded by the FWIO tartan, designed by Nelda Morrison. |
