Fergus Weigh Scales / Market Scales Building records, 1974-1999. |
Date |
1974-1999 |
Description |
In a meeting held in the Fergus Weigh Scales building on 04 April 1974, an organization was formed, to be known as the Mens Senior Citizens of Fergus. They quickly sprang to save the building, recently sold, where they had been meeting for many years to play cards. Their successful intervention led to the preservation of the weigh scales building on the east side of Provost Lane, just north of St. Andrew Street. The history of the building and its occupants is told in essays by James Gow (1992) and William H. "Bill" Black (1999). Inlcudes newspaper clippings, correspondence with service clubs and granting organizations. |
