  9. 1952X.52.1 - Waistcoat

    Man's gold coloured silk waistcoat with small blue embroidered flowers on it. Wide turned-down collar tapers at the front middle where the vest fastens via four matching silk covered buttons. Two small pockets; one on each side of the front. The back is bronze coloured silk and tightens at the waistline via two silk tape ties. Handwritten in ink on the interior rear: "J.T. Gilkison / Glasow January 1836".

    Seashell: univalve - knobbed top shell (trochus dentatus forsk). Heavily encrusted shell. Sand colour on top; pearly-white and sand colour underneath. Common shell of East Africa.
