  1. 1970.2.5.02 - Shoe Shoe, Man

    A pair of men's brown leather shoes (.01 & .02), circa 1880. There is some tooling on the top and sides of the uppers. There are three pairs of eyelets. The leather is very hard. The heels bear the mark "8".

  2. 1980.20.1 - Cap, Man's Hat, Man's

    A circular grey flannel flat cap dated circa 1930. It has a peak with a snap fastener. On the top centre is a small covered button. The hat is constructed out of eight pie shaped wedges sewn together with top-stitched detail. The lining of the cap is gold satin and inside is a pull down rabbit fur lined band.

    Rectangular beige paper package, labelled in black & red. Package closed with a seal has not been open yet. Inscription "Buckingham Cigarettes Philip Morris & Co. Limited ..Established over 60 years ...Twenty Cigarettes ... Trade Mark Registered .... Made in Canada"

    A pair of man's handknit mittens (.01 & .02); red and grey checkerboard pattern with wide, red horizontal stripes at ribbed cuffs. Many darning repairs using green and grey yarn to palms.

    A man's buffalo fur coat. It has a shawl collar, two slash pockets and a back slit. It is mid-length. The coat's lining is quilted. The coat has knit storm cuffs inside the sleeves.

  14. 1981.73.6 - Nightgown

    Full length white cotton nightgown. Full-length sleeves. Front closure with six buttons extends halfway down the front of nightgown. Stand-up collar, cuffs of sleeves and the vertical panels on the front of the nightgown are trimmed with broderie anglais eyelet lace and a scalloped edge. The two vertical panels on the front and the yoke at the back are embroidered with appliqued briad trim in a floral pattern.

    Four matching leaf-shaped epaulettes (.01-.04) contructed of a cardboard support that is embellished with coiled gold wire thread and sequins sewn on with white thread.

  16. 1990.65.1 - Hanging, Wall

    Rectangular quilted wall hanging with twelve square blocks, four in each row. Each square block is trimmed in blue with yellow and blue sashing around the whole quilt. The background of each block is white. The name of each Women's Institute Branch is hand-stitched in blue embroidery thread on each block. The image chosen for each block represents the community of each branch.

    Handmade horse-drawn wooden sleigh (.01) with no seats. Box body of sleigh is eight feet in length and constructed of wood; painted light blue (this is the original painted finish) with red stencil (original); blacksmith-made metalwork. Includes unpainted, wooden tongue (.02) with blacksmith-made metalwork.

    Twenty cotton quilt blocks (.01-.020) in "Nine Square" pattern. Handsewn and machine sewn in various prints and colours. (.021-.025) are four strips of cotton squares.

    A pair of infants' black leather shoes (.01 & .02), circa 1855. The shoes have black silk ties and a black button attached to the ankle strap. They have brown leather soles.

  20. 2003.17.1.08 - Frame, Quilting

    Four-sided quilting frame with four legs. Two of the sides are rounded wooden poles. The other two sides are flat with two narrow openings running end to end. Each wooden leg has a forged iron circle on the top, through which the quilting frame poles were inserted. .01 & .02 ROUNDED POLES .03 & .04 FLATTENED POLES .05 - .08 LEGS
