Note with the bag: This bag belonged to Miss Harriet Robb, (married name became Payne), who was a seamstress who travelled from house to house doing various jobs for her clients. In her bag she carried her sewing supplies, (i.e. tape measure, scissors, thread, needles etc.). Also, she carried a nightie, change of underwear, hair brush and other personal gear, depending on how long her stay would be. She was apprenticed to a seamstress in London West, Ontario. She lived there all her life (1870-1940). Harriet Robb was the aunt of the donor. |
