Item Name |
Spoon |
Description |
A flat wooden spoon, handcarved with a hole at the top with yellow string. A motif of two hearts has been carved into the handle. The handle has also been textured with small indentations with a sharp tool. |
Provenance |
This piece belonged to the donor's friend, Janet Hallman. Her mother - Sarah Grills Hallman of Minto Twp. and Huron County. The donor thought that Sarah's husband was from a Mennonite family, possibly explaining the carved heart motif on the handle. See articles in Valentine Exhibit file, 1993. This spoon may have nothing to do with Mennonite motifs, rather it may be a modern carving of an ancient tradition about love spoons. |
