From the estate of Isabella Gordon Wright Park. Isabella arrived in Canada in about 1913 and spent the first winter in the Barrie Church area. She then moved to Fergus. Isabella was accompanied from Perthshire Scotland by two cousins, Annie Ferguson and Francis McGregor. Isabella was educated at the Fergus High School. She also attended normal School. She taught for several years in Nichol area. She formed part of the staff of the Wellington County home for the Aged operated by Mr. and Mrs. Allan. Later Isabella and Mrs. Allan moved to Fergus and on Union St. they opened Spruce Lodge. When Mrs. Allan died Spruce Lodge was closed and sold. Isabella then married Alexander Park. Mrs. Allan is the grandmother of Douglas Allan of Elora and the mother in-law of Mrs. Roberta Allan, who wrote "The History of Elora" |
