Description |
A collection of handmade "Skipper" clothing (.01-.023) dated circa 1964. The blue denim top (.01) was hand sewn with straps. The blue and white check pattern shirt (.02) had short sleeves. The light blue sweater (.03) was knit by hand. The cotton poncho (.04) was made from an old towel. It was embroidered with black thread on the edge and the neckline. The red cotton skirt (.05) has smocking on the waist. It has a hook and eye fastener at the back. The light blue skirt (.06) has a waistband. It has a slit in the back. Two short light blue `skorts' (.07 & .08) have a blue and white checked pattern lining and the pair of shorts underneath the skirt. Four light blue cotton shorts (.09 - .012) were handmade in different sizes. Two pairs (.011 & .012) have white trim on the cuffs. Red knit pants (.014) were worn with a red knit shirt or dress (.013). The shirt (.013) has blue embroidered trim. There is a seam at the back. The grey cotton pleated skirt (.015) has a metal snap fastener at the back. The white cotton dress (.016) was made of a red, blue and green floral print. It has a hook and eye fastener. The red corduroy jumper (.017) has straps and a pleated skirt. It has a metal snap fastener at the back. The blue cotton tube-shaped dress (.018) has a dark blue bow tie on the bodice. It has a metal snap fastener at the back. The dress (.019) has a light blue silk skirt and a dark blue velvet bodice. It has gold trim on the waistline. The white cotton floral print dress (.020) is embroidered on the neckline with red thread. It has short sleeves and a pink bow on the waistline. The gold and green floral print dress (.021) has gold embroidery on the waist. It has no sleeves. A metal snap fastener is at the back. The short-sleeved white dress (.022) has black thread lining the skirt and the neckline. It is the same as 2009.28.6.02. The blue cotton dress (.023) has a pink bow on the neckline. The dress has a metal hook and eye fastener. |

The "Skipper" clothes belonged to the donor (born in 1956) circa 1964. She grew up in Fonthill, Ontario. Her parents were Rev. Cannon Ralph (born in 1923) and Barbara Price (born in 1926). She and her family moved to Fergus in 1981. |
