Description |
Flower-shaped stamped metal milk token with eight petals, from a dairy in Mount Forest. One side is stamped "J. Lennox / Mount Forest / Dairy". The other side is stamped "Good for / 1 / quart / of / milk". The text on both sides is surrounded by a circle of small dots. |

These tokens belonged to Hazel Hladki of Lindsay. James Lennox (1860-1942) was born in Kenilworth, Arthur Township in December 1860 to William Lennox (b. 1815) and Jane Paulin (b. 1839). William and Jane married on 20 March 1860. William died, and Jane remarried in 1871 to John Foster (b. 1807). James married Mary Elizabeth Duguid (b. 10 May 1872) in February 1900 in Mount Forest. Mary was the daughter of Peter Duguid and Isabella Wilson. James and Mary had five children: Jean Isabel/Bell (b. 5 June 1901), Irene Mae (b. 30 May 1903), James Alexander (b. 5 June 1905), Dorothy (b. 20 April 1907), and Margaret (b. 2 March 1909). In the 1921 census, the Lennox family is recorded as living in a brick house on Martin St. in Mount Forest, and James is a farmer. James Lennox operated the Dickson Dairy in Mount Forest from 1921 until 1927. See "Numismatically Wellington" by Harry N. James FCNRS. |
