Provenance |
The birth certificate came with the Cabbage Patch Kid, Muriel (2009.52.1.07) in 1983. It was given to the donor by her grandparents, William and Freda DeLaurentis as they were travelling to meet her father, who, as a high school teacher, was camping with his Richview Collegiate Institute school group at the Rockwood Conservation Area in the fall of 1983. It was her first trip to Wellington County. The donor was nine years old and lived in Etobicoke. Cabbage Patch Kids originally started as dolls called "Little People" created by Xavier Roberts in 1978. The dolls attracted attention by the toy manufacturer Coleco, who began mass production in 1982. The dolls were produced with Coleco from 1982-1989.
