Description |
A commemorative medal (.01), a Scout service patch (.02), a Scout service pin (.03) and a case for the commemerative medal (.04), circa 1960. The circular copper-coloured medal (.01) is in the shape of a sliced tree-trunk. It has the silver emblem and "Boy Scouts" in the centre. The medal is attached to a synthetic band of yellow, green and red ribbon attached at the top to a black rectangular backing. On the back it is inscribed "W. Scully". The medal was in a rectangular black plastic case (.04) with a snap closure. The cloth Scout service patch (.02) has two yellow bars outlined in black. Each bar represents 5 years of service. The medal with the ribbon commemorated the ten year service of W. Scully. The two-bar yellow stripe commemorated the ten year service of "Buff" MacQuarrie to the 1st Fergus Troop, circa 1950-1970. The donor's grandfather, Simeon Holman (d. 2001) was involved in Scouting in Fergus since its beginnings in 1928 when the 1st Fergus Troop was established. He was born and raised in Fergus. Simeon's son, Fred Holman (1928-2003) (and the donor's father) was born and raised in Fergus. Fred was involved in Scouting since the 1940s. He was a leader of the 1st Fergus Cubs, Scouts and Rovers. |
