Description |
A woman's black satin bonnet which is trimmed with black jet bands in floral motifs, black and net. It is dated circa 1880s. The bonnet is lined with black cotton which is gathered at centre. It has white crepe frill on the top and front brim. It is also trimmed with grey-blue leaves and 7 clear balls, 5 of which are damaged. It has black satin ties but one tie is missing. The satin at top of hat is frayed and brown. The beading is loose and missing in pieces. There is a wire structure underneath. For more information, see Harper's Bazaar Book. |

Johanna (French) Grills married James Grills in 1840. Emigrated to Canada from Devon in 1842. Johanna was born 1817 and died 1897. We think the Grills lived in Harriston. See Harper's Bazaar, 1880s. |
