A small, black leather dispatch pouch with brass belt fittings on each side dated circa 1890. On the front flap is a metal crest depicting a cannon. Handwritten on the interior of the front flap is "Jno. A. Ross, 1st Brigade, F. A." (Field Artillery). |

The pouch was worn by Lt. Col. John McCrae when he was a member of the 16th Field Battery, Guelph. When he went to the South African War, 1899-1902, he left this in the care of the donor, who was Quartermaster Sargent of the 16th Field Battery. |
