Provenance |
Used by the late Alfred Stevens family of the 12th Concession, Peel Twp. They farmed Lot 8E Conc 12, near Goldstone. Alfred was born in England in 1855 and emigrated in 1883. He raised cattle and hogs. He married Katy Udy in England. They had six children, one of whom, Norman, was the donor's husband. Glue was bought in taffly-like sticks or blocks and was melted down. The sticks of glue were placed in a pot which was then placed in a larger pot of boiling water. The pots were placed in the stove to keep the water in the pot boiling. This type was used up until the 1920s. At this time that was the only form in which glue could be obtained. |
