Description |
Blue silk rosette-style prize ribbon with three ribbon "tails" and six folded ribbon sections framing a central goll-coloured button. Printed in gold on the central ribbon tail is "CNE / TORONTO / SECOND PRIZE". The black text "INDUSTRY - THRIFT - PROSPERITY" and "CANADIAN NATIONAL EXHIBITION" is circumscribed around the button, with the date 1922 at the centre inside a triangle, above which is a design of a beaver and three maple leaves. The backing of the button is a stiffened white fabric. A metal hook protrudes from the back of the button. This ribbon is from the first Royal Agricultural Winter Fair held at the Canadian National Exhibition grounds in Toronto. |

Won by James (Jim) Parkinson (1887-1967) for showing his Lincoln sheep. This ribbon is from the first Royal Agricultural Winter Fair (aka Royal Winter Fair aka The Royal), held at the Canadian National Exhibition grounds in Toronto. Jim was born in Eramosa Township, Concession 1 (now Jones Baseline), Lot 13, west half. Jim raised and showed Lincoln sheep from 1905-1926, showing at the following fairs: Royal Winter Fair (Toronto), International Live Stock Exposition (Chicago), Ontario Provincial Winter Fair (Guelph), and Eastern Ontario Live Stock and Poultry Show (Ottawa). The Parkinson family farm remained in the family until 1974 when it was expropriated by the Grand River Conservation Authority for the Guelph Lake. |
