Description |
A World War I wool khaki jacket, circa 1916-1918. It has a 5-button front and four pockets. It has brass-plated buttons. It has one collar badge designating the Machine Gun Corps. One stripe is on the left arm. Three small blue stripes are on the right sleeve. |

The jacket belonged to James Earnest Crane (1895-1970), Regimental Number 663651, circa 1916-1918. He was born in West Luther Township on the border of East Luther and grew up on a farm in East Luther. He attested to the 164th Battalion, CEF and served with the Machine Gun Corps as a gunner in France. He was badly gassed August 28, 1918 at Arras and was eventually sent home because of it, after recovering in several hospitals in France and England. After the war, he married and lived the rest of his life in Mount Forest, working on the CPR lines between Harriston and Mount Forest. He served as President of the Mount Forest Legion. |
