Description |
A woman's wedding bonnet dated to 1880. The rust / brown velvet bonnet (.04) has a chestnut brown corded silk ribbon that forms a bow on the top and ties under the chin. There are brown ostrich plumes on top. There is ruching along the front edge. The bonnet is lined with black taffeta. The wedding outfit consists of a skirt (.01), an underbodice (.02), a "basque" bodice (.03) and a bonnet (.04). |

Worn as part of wedding outfit 1975.71.1.01 - 04. The outfit was worn by the donor's grandmother, Margaret (nee Reimmer) when she was married in 1880. It was while the donor's grandfather was travelling in Europe that he found his second mate and married her in the state of Mecklenberg-Schwering, Germany before he returned to his farm. |
