Provenance |
Made by the donor's maternal grandmother, Margaret (Groves) Nesbitt of Peel Township, sister of Dr. Abraham Groves of Fergus. The glass is original; the frame was bought at Eaton's in 1946. Margaret married Thomas Nesbitt; they had three children: Art, Mary, Laura (donor's mother). When children were still very young, Thomas was killed in a farming accident. Margaret and the children moved to Fergus and moved back to the farm when Art was 15. Art farmed there all his life. Mary was a schoolteacher in the area and then moved to Toronto to teach. Laura moved to Toronto and was a house detective at Eaton's. She married Nelson Kennedy, donor's father. Margaret Nesbitt died in 1935, the same year as her brother, Abraham. |
