Stereoscope Stereoviewer Toy, Optical |
Description |
Hand-held square black plastic "View-Master" type dated circa 1950. It was originally stored in the cardboard box (2014.10.4.03). The box is stored in a separate location. This child's toy is hand-held, held up to the user's eyes, and pointed at a light source to illuminate images from a slide reel. The user would select a slide reel (2014.10.5.036), place it into the slot at the top of the viewmaster, and rotate the reel (move from one image to the next) by operating a hinged arm at the side of the viewmaster. The images are duplicated on each reel, one for each eye, to produce a 3-dimensional image for the viewer. On the back of the stereoviewer is the brand name, "View-Master", manufacturer's name "Sawyer's" and patent information for the USA, Canada, and Britain. Made by Sawyer's Inc of Portland, Oregon. |
