Description |
Two piece, rectangular, brick form or mould that produced ten bricks, each embossed with the name "FERGUS". Base of mould is a length of thick wood reinforced with a steel framework and with steel dividers. Top of mould consists of ten steel plates, each creating a rectangular recess in the brick imprinted with the word "FERGUS". Steel handles on each end of the mould. |

Belonged to stone mason, Charles Mattaini, of Fergus. Dated 1886 to 1920. Born in 1873, Mattaini learned the skills of building as a young man working in Italy and Switzerland before emigrating to Canada in the early 1890s. He settled in West Garafraxa, married into the Landoni family of brickbuilders and then started his own construction company. |
