Item Name |
Cover, Pin Cushion Cushion, Pin Holder, Hat Pin Pincushion |
Description |
Two rectangular, white linen, doily-like pieces dated circa 1908. The bottom piece is slightly larger than the top piece. Both are hand stitched and hand embroidered, in white, and have scalloped edges. Embroidery on the top cover depicts a basket and a long scrolling stem of floral spray. The top and bottom covers would have originally been joined together by threading a decorative ribbon through the embroidered eyelet holes. A cushion insertion (missing) would be placed between the two covers creating a pillow-style hatpin holder. Note: a light green polyester ribbon was added by the Museum in 2019 to illustrate the original form of the holder. |

Provenance |
The long rectangular shape would suggest that the cushion was used for hatpins; such cushions typically sat on a bureau or dresser. |
