Steel military helmet from World War I constructed from a single sheet of pressed steel with a narrow steel binding folded around the rim. It is dated 1914-1918. Rounded crown and flat brim. The liner consists of a floating wire framework covered with fabric. Fabric adjustable chinstrap. |

The helmet belonged to Alexander Cameron McLean (1890- 1988) of Puslinch Township. He enlisted in the Machine Gun Section of the 153rd (Wellington) Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force on March 21, 1916. His service number was 928765. He served in the 1st Battalion Canadian Machine Gun Corps. He was a solider that used machine guns to support or defend against infantry attack. He was gased during the war and wounded his leg in 1918. He was discharged on May 5, 1919. Alexander Cameron McLean was born to Alexander McLean (1856 - 1927) and Jessie (nee Cameron) McLean (1866 -1959) on November 20, 1890. They lived on RR 1 in Puslinch Township. |
