Description |
A prize ribbon (.03) that was won at an agricultural fair in Moorefield in Maryborough Township. The celluloid-covered metal button has a long hook, faced with a photo of a bull's head. Behind the label is a red, white and blue ribbon rosette with three red, white and blue streamers. |
Provenance |
The ribbon is from the Griffin Family. They lived on the 5th line of Erin Twp., Lot 11 and Concession 6. Smith Griffin Sr. (1870-1969), his son, Harold (1895-1981) and Smith R. Griffin (1924-1987) entered and exhibited at many fall fairs including the first Royal Winter Fair in Toronto in 1922. In 1915, the Griffin Shorthorn herd was established and in 1937, the Griffins received a government award for growing certified seed grain. They also had a prize flock of Suffolk Sheep. Smith R. Griffin (1924-1987) was the donor's nephew |
