Description |
A hand held logging tool consisting of a round wooden lever handle, tapered along its length. At one end is mounted a J-shaped, hinged, iron hook with a sharp point at its tip. Blunt end reinforced with an iron sleeve with a slight claw foot. The hook, or dog, grips a log allowing it to be canted (pulled, lifted, tilted or turned). |

The cant hook is from Templin Carriage and Wagon Works of Fergus. The hook was used to clear log jams in sluice on way to the sawmill opposite to Wilson's Mill, Fergus, on the Grand River. |
