Item Name |
Desk, Portable |
Description |
Wooden, handmade schoolmaster's desk. Portable (no legs). The lid slants downward and is hinged by two square leather strips nailed to the lid and desk. Inside in pencil is written "Edwin [Harlow?], 1856". |
Date |
1856 CIRCA |
Provenance |
The owner bought it from an estate sale in Guelph. He thought he'd seen written on it "Eden Mills" but we could find nothing like this. We do think it is a schoolmaster's desk, one that he would take with him as he moved to a new school. |
