Provenance |
The pressure gauges are from the Shand Dam, Belwood Lake Conservation Area, and part of the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA). The gauges date after 1930 and are possibly original to when the dam opened in 1942. They were replaced with electronic gauges in 1995/1996. Jerry Brousseau oversaw the project. The gauge (2022.23.1) was used to read the pressure on one of the valves on the Shand Dam, which controlled the normal summer flow of water, located 12-14 feet below the gates. The gauge (2022.23.2) read the pressure in the relief wells (relief wells were designed to relieve the pressure under the dam to avoid having high water pressure life the dam up). |
