Description |
Light blue and white cotton utensil case/sleeve. Machine sewn and hand embroidered. The exterior is a light blue cotton, with white cotton sewn on the interior, divided by rows of stitching into individual pockets for forks. A second piece of white cotton acts as a flap which folds over the exposed tops of the forks. The overall shape of the case is rectangular, with one rounded end. This rounded end is hand-embroidered with a yellow and pink design and the word "TEASPOONS" in yellow. White cotton is sewn along all edges of the case. |

Utensil cases 2014.29.1-3 were handmade by the donor's second cousin, E. Pearl Johnson (1903-1974) of Moorefield, for her trousseau, circa 1920. Pearl did not marry. She ran the Johnson's Grocery Store in Moorefield all her life along with her parents, Bessie and Norman Johnson. Pearl was the cousin of the donor's father, Frank Johnson (1903-1998). Her parents were Norman (1870-1960) and Bessie (McLean) Johnson (1874-1951). |
