Percussion cap military pistol, circa 1840. Walnut stock with iron barrel and lock. Brass trigger guard and trim. The hammer is missing. The barrel and butt plate both have engravings "R1". |

The pistol was found by Tom Mills in 1954 when he was helping his father, Terry Mills build a garage on Ted Gilfillan's farm in Eramosa Township (Concession 2, Lot 6). They were building the garage beside the farm house on the remains of a previous structure, possibly a summer kitchen or shed. The pistol was found in the dirt in the footprint of the previous structure. |
