[MU 1523] Papers below are the originals that Thorning handed to his professors; they include the professors' comments and marks. - item 1: A 25 page paper titled "Generational Conflict and the Rise of Nazism" written by Stephen Thorning for the course History 485: Totalitarianism in Europe, 1922-1953, taught by professor Eric Reiche of the Department of History, dated 29 November 1982. - item 2: A 63 page paper titled "Agrarianism in Ontario: The Patrons of Industry" written by Stephen Thorning for Dr. Johnston of the Department of History, dated 28 January 1985. - item 3: A 38 page paper titled "Metropolitanism, Historiography and the Canadian Intellectual Tradition" written by Stephen Thorning for a class through the Department of History, dated June 1985; revised July 1985. file 2: Convocation booklets, Masters and PhD, 1986; 1994. [MU 1523] Subseries 4: Historic documents and correspondence collected by Stephen Thorning, 1894-2005. file 1: A typed copy of a poem titled "Our Picnic to Elora" by Mary Woods, 1894. [MU 1523] This poem was found in a truck in the attic of the Schantz/Russell home at 43 Schneider Ave. It describes a picnic in the summer of 1894 in the village of Elora. Also includes a colour photocopy of a photograph of an unidentified group of people sitting in the gorge. file 2: Dominion Brussels Carpet Company invoice addressed to Frank Clarke of Elora, dated 25 July 1898. [MU 1523] file 3: Documents and corresponded relating to Alexander Stewart a druggist of Guelph, 1918-1926. [MU 1523] Includes a copy of The Ontario Temperance Act especially applying to Physicians, Druggists, Dentists, and Veterinary Surgeons, Toronto, 1916. file 4: Village in Crisis, book, by Kenneth Westhues and Peter R. Using Elora, 1971-1972, as a case study ("Fringetown") the authors examine how urban growth drained rural villages of their young people, and more recently, villages on the fringe of metropolitan areas have been inundated with people ... seeking to recapture the benefits of traditional village life.
