Documents related to the activities of the Fergus High School Cadet Corps 1950-1952, including member lists, programme, speech, lesson plans and other handwritten notes. They are listed in the order in which they were received. - Annual Inspection, Fergus High School Cadet Corps (affiliated with 11th Field Regiment Royal Canadian Artillery), 21 May 1952. Programme with itinerary and sketch of officer belittling a cadet. - Speech [no date; ca. 1950-1952]. Notes for an introductory speech, list of officers, history of the Fergus Pipe Band, and description of cadets' uniforms (boys & girls & officers). Speech begins "Ladies and Gentlemen, we present for your approval the inspection of #361 F.H.S. Cadet Corps. The object of cadet training is to give mental, moral and physical training to boys and girls and so to form their characters as to enable them to start well in life. The training develops principles of citizenship and patriotism and fits them in the event of a national emergency to take their place in the defence of their home and their country...". Typed with handwritten notes. Officers listed are Pipe Major Percy Gibson; Treasurer Walter Henderson; Secretary Doug Kerr. - Speech [no date; ca. 1950-1952]. Handwritten in pencil. It begins, "Ladies and Gentlemen, boys & girls -- we are about to witness the inspection of #361 F.H. school Cadet Corps. Many people have the false impression that cadet training is a movement to produce soldiers...". - Notes entitled "First Aid"; handwritten in pencil, ca.1950-1952. List of first aid issues (eg. "Broken Leg"), and of people: "Cpl Fatum / Sgt Hawer / Cadet Dar Mitchell / Cadet Carl Leybourne / Cadet Ril Lawrence". [written in pencil on back of 1952 inspection itinerary page]. - List of Officers, Fergus High School Cadet Corps, ca. 1950-1952. Includes descriptive notes re. each officer's involvement within the Corps. and outside of it. Eg. one entry reads, "Cadet Stg. Arch Etherington / Active in Signal Corps / Took part in play -- Entertainment night". List includes Kenneth Watkins, Ron Ostic, Jim Russell, John MacQuarrie, Murray Barnet, Ron Freure, Jim Davidson, Mac Thomson, Allan Lamb, John Clarke, Hugh Cameron, and Arch Etherington. - Biographical Sketch: Col[?] T. J. Bell, M.C., C.O. 11th Field Regt RCA. [typed]. - List of Colour Party members, with notes of biographical info [handwritten in pencil]. Eg. one entry reads, "Cadet Sgt. Jean McLean / Member of Sr. Basket Ball Team / Attended Athletic Coaching Course / in Lake Couch[ich]ing last / summer". Includes Bill Henderson, Andrew King, Kenneth Haws, Jean Pringle, Agnes Mooney, Betty Ross, Jean McLean, Marion Black, Lois Matthews, Berniece Roberts, Yvonne Ransom, Sheila Stewart, and Jean Copeland. [written on back of an inspection programme of 1950]. - Qualifications #361 Fergus High School Cadet Corps 1951-1952, "Examinded by Serjeant Hernandez". - Programme of the Fergus High School Cadet Corps annual inspection, 19 May 1950. Includes itinerary and sketches of dancing highlander and man blowing bugle. - Examination Book [nd] with written note "Program". Booklet includes typed and hand-written notations re. the "Object of Cadet Training", list of officers, the Bren Gun, First Aid, Tumbling, Map Reading. - Handwritten notes entitled "Company Serjeant Major" re. "markers". First portion reads, "Markers. Markers Outwards Turn. To your paces Quick March / Markers Steady. The Company Commanders now march their / Companies on the Markers..." - Two newspaper clippings, Guelph Daily Mercury, Monday, 21 May [undated -- likely 1951 as that year featured 21 May on a Monday]. One is titled, "Officers Commend Fergus Cadet Corps On Dress, Efficiency". The other includes a photograph and is titled, "Fergus Cadets Commended at Inspection Parade". [photocopied for preservation purposes] - Handwritten notes in pencil, "Cadet Inspection", with list of activities and events for the Inspection. - "Duties", handwritten notes in pencil, with a list of duties, some of which include "Decoration of Field", "Payment of bills", "Distribution of Programs". - Cadet Instructors Meeting, April 11th [no year given]. Handwritten. Includes notations after last names of instructors: Ruppel, Stewart, Hammond, Pitts, Moon, and Gilchrist. - Examination booklet, with writing on front "Health Education". Pages inside with handwritten pencil notations.
