Marian Isabel Templin (1897-1981) of Fergus, papers, 1915-1970. Dr. Marian Templin was born and educated in Fergus and interned at Groves Memorial Hospital. She graduated in medicine from the University of Toronto in 1922, and did a post graduate year at the Women's Medical College, Philadelphia. Her early years in private practice were spent in Hamilton. In October 1942, Marian became the first female medical officer in the Canadian Navy, first with the Wrens, in the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service, and later transferring to the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve (RCNVR). In 1946, as Surgeon Lieutenant Commander, she retired from the service and began as Assistant Medical Officer of Health (MOH) in Windsor. She died 08 June 1981.
