Dulmage, Dickson, Gano and Henry family photographs, Palmerston and Chatham, ca.1865-ca.1952. Daniel W. Dulmage (1843-1934) was born in Prince Edward County, near Picton. [The census of 1901 and of 1911 give his birth-year as 1849]. At the age of 14, he moved with his parents to Huron County and four years later, was employed with his brother in a general store in Clifford. He studied and qualified as a teacher, an occupation he followed for 10 years. While stationed at Kirkton (near Exeter and Centralia) he met and married, ca.1880, his wife, Jane Carr Henry (1859-1946). After he left teaching, the couple lived in Staffa (near Seaforth), eventually returning to Kirkton, then Wallaceburg, Thamesville, Petrolia and London. In 1892, Mr. and Mrs. Dulmage purchased a store in Clifford which they operated until 1915, when they retired. Their family consisted of: - Ellen ("Nellie") Christiana / Christina. (1880-date) At her father's death, she was listed as Mrs. Hugh McEwing, London, Ontario. - Mary Alice (1882-date) She married the Rev. John M. Dickson. She died and was buried in Hong Kong. - Arthur Milton (1891-1896) - Norine Marguerite (1894-date) At her father's death, she was listed as second assistant superintendent at Toronto General Hospital. Mr. Dulmage was active in municipal affairs, serving for 10 years as commissioner; Reeve of Palmerston (1907-1908); and in 1907 was elected Warden of Wellington County. At his death in 1934, he was survived by his brother William Dulmage at Harriston and his sister, Sarah, Mrs. Len Ruttan of Wroxeter.
