Description |
This donation consists of reproductions of the artwork of Canadian artist, John C. Knapton (1935-2010), in the form of greeting cards and photocopies, biographical information about the the artist, as well as his original sketches and watercolour drawings [see Objects Database for original artwork]. Born in Toronto in 1935, John C. Knapton worked as a fur trader for the Hudson Bay Company between 1953-1962, where he began painting. In the 1960s and 1970s he studied at the Washington School of Art, Toronto Art Therapy Institute, and Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. From 1978-1990 he travelled Europe earning a living as an artist, and exhibiting his work in Germany and Spain. He returned to Canada in 1990 and moved to a home near Ariss. While there he sold and exhibited his work regularly at the Wyld Thyme / Johnathan's Ledge store on Metcalf Street at Bruce/Church Street in Elora. Around the year 2001 he moved to a country property just outside of Dorchester, Ontario. He died in London, Ontario on 19 March 2010. File 1: Biographical information, 1991-2008.
