1955.19.4.02 - Gaiter Gaiter, Uniform Gaitor Legging
A pair of man's brown leather military uniform gaiters (.01 & .02), dated to 1914 - 1918. The gaitors extend from the ankle to below the knee and are tapered to conform to the shape of the leg. Hook and eyelet closure down the front; six pairs of eyelets and six hooks. No laces.

A pair of brown leather men's boots (.01 & .02). The boots lace up at the knee. They also lace up at the front over the foot and up the ankle. The boot is called a Stratacona boot dated circa 1914-1918.

Man's khaki wool military overcoat, 1914-1918. Double-breasted with two sets of leather buttons. Shoulder straps each has two pins (a crown and a squarish design). The straps are held by hooks and eyes. The front pockets have flaps. Two buttons each at the cuffs. Extensive moth damage.

Khaki-coloured wool puttee or legging has long strip of material with tape stitched to the tapered end. The puttee was the strip of material that was wrapped around and around the lower part of a soldier's legs, over the trousers and the top of the boot, and fastened tightly with closing tape.

Felt khaki-coloured armband with distinguishing insignia. Various colours and shapes of felt sewn on the armband were used to distinguish the Canadians from other troops of the British army, and they became proud symbols of the Canadian Corps. Used with World War I uniform.

Two military identification tags (.01 & .02) used in World War I, circa 1914-1918. The tags are made of vulcanized asbestos and are held together with a short piece of string. Two military identification tags (.01 & .02) used in World War I, circa 1914-1918. The tags are made of vulcanized asbestos and are held together with a short piece of string. One of the tags is a khaki-coloured eight-sided piece (.01) and the other is a round brown tag (.02). Both tags have the owner's name and serial number inscribed on them, "928-261/ I.K. Anderson P."
