1992.34.7.02 - Cabinet, Spacer

A wooden cabinet (.02), designed to sit on a table-top. The cabinet is fitted with numerous narrow wooden compartments to hold narrow lengths of wood (called spacers or slugs). There is no back or front on the cabinet, so the spacers can be pulled from each side. The spacers or slugs (.01) are small flat lengths of wood, of varying thickness, used to space between words when typesetting.

Metal composing stick, used to set up hand type to be placed in a form ready to print. Long flat piece of metal with narrow back. A piece of metal at one end acts as a border for the type. The right-hand border is a metal piece attached to a sliding metal band.
