    A pressed glass tumbler with an uneven rim. It has a hexagon-shaped base and a circular indentation. On the sides are patterns with seven gothic arches and a rounded arch around the top.

  2. 1952X.481.23 - Rug Machine

    A wooden rug machine in the shape of a smooth heart, made in 1882. It consists of two halves which are placed together so that the sides can rub against each other. There is a rectangular metal bar surrounding a single screw. At the tip there is a brass needle-like apparatus for threading the thread. There is an indentation mark on the middle lower part of the wood.

    The blue card calls this a "lignum vitae" (wood of life) stick. From the description it sounds like a shoemaking tool which is used for smoothing leather seams. Made from a hardwood which is lignum vitae. Reddish brown colour.

    A brown imitation leather pin and needle case. Nearly cubical on all sides. Knob on top to open box, unfolds in six panels. Five panels have black cloth pieces on the inside for holding needles. Small cube for 100 toilet pins with an inscription. One side has 25 black-headed pins, another side has twenty various coloured pins, next side is empty, fourth side has five various coloured pins.

  15. 1976.42.2.01 - Coat Vest

    Man's double-breasted black wool frock coat. It has six covered buttons and reaches mid thigh. Narrow collar and lapels, long sleeves with cuffs outlined with narrow braid binding and two small covered buttons. There is also narrow braid binding on the outlining collars, front of the coat and the bottom hem. There is an inside breast pocket on either side of the coat. Back pleat. Matching vest (1976.42.2.02) is stored in a separate location.

    Ivory cotton vest, originally worn with frock coat 1976.42.2.01 (stored in a separate location). The oval shaped, deeply-scooped neck has narrow lapels and four mother of pearl buttons down the front. There are two pockets on the lower front lined with white cotton. There is also a back belt with a metal buckle marked British.

    Each hinge consists of a flat length of iron folded in half, forming a hook (or hole for the hinge pin) at the the middle point. The hinges accommodate a door/gate depth of approximately 3 inches. Three large iron screws join the two lengths together.
