A shoemaking tool which made woman's long leather boots. It was made/used by the donor Wallace Vallery's brother, Frank Vallery. Frank repaired and made shoes for sale in Belwood. His hobbies were making arch supports and keeping bees. He built his house and shop in 1896 on the west side of Broadway St. in Belwood. (Later it was used as a general store by Lorne Bryan and then as an apartment building.) Frank married Maggie McDonald, oldest daughter of Hugh McDonald of Belwood, a planing mill owner (1874-1901). Frank and Maggie had one son called Hugh. |
