1956.13.1 - Forceps, Tooth Tool, Veterinarian

A pair of hand-forged, veterinary forceps, used to cut the protruding teeth on a horse. Long, round metal handles that widen to a square shape at the jaw end. Short bevelled cutting blades. End of each handle flattens and bends in a curve. Dated circa 1890 - 1900.

Jaws are curved at a right angle to the handle and have a scalloped edge. Round wooden handgrips, painted black. Dated circa 1890 - 1900.

Oval shaped metal rasp set on a slender flat metal shaft with a sloped bend. A series of horizonatal grooves create the cutting surface (used to rasp horse teeth). The shaft of the rasp mounts into a long round wooden handle with a brass collar. Handle is natural wood in colour. Hand-forged. Dated circa 1890-1900.

A cameo brooch, circa 1890. The brooch has a pinkish-white oval-shaped cameo of a woman wearing a headdress. The cameo is white plastic that is painted pink. It is worn in spots. The cameo is mounted on a brass backing. Soldered around the edge is a decorative brass border. The brooch has a steel clasp on the back.
