  1. 1949.2.1 - Cradle, Grain

    Grain cradle or scythe made of hickory or cedar. Scythe-like handle with one handhold close to the ground level. Attached to the handle is a long blade. Parallel to the blade are four long wooden prongs. These prongs are attached to a wooden bar which extends from the handle. Running down from the handle to the prongs are six wooden bars which give added support to the prongs.

    White, hand-knitted cotton bedspread. Eleven-and-a-half rows of ten blocks with each block being 9cm square. Plain knitting with rows of diagonal ribbing to form a diamond. Four petals in each block radiating from the centre. The edge of one corner is missing and the back is poorly finished.

    A handcarved wooden cello (.01) and a handcarved wooden cello case (.02) with a handcarved wooden lid (.03), 1882. The cello has a two-piece back and no inlay around the edge.     A hand-made violin (.01) and case (.02). The end of the violin is curved, with four alternating keys. The body is of a tan-coloured wood.     A child's white cotton sunbonnet dated circa 1910. The brim is separate with cording as stiffening. There is ruffle of the same material around brim. The crown and curtain are one piece with a drawstring at the back. The curtain is cartridge pleated to brim at sides. The curtain is semi-circular with a ruffled edge.

    A woman's black winter bonnet dated circa 1910. It has a machine-knit exterior with felt wadding. It is lined with sateen and looped, matted cotton. There is a trim of black taffeta and satin at the centre of the brim and neck edge. It has two velvet ties.

    White nightgown of unbleached cotton; machine sewn with centre front placket opening, fastened with five buttons and buttonholes, trimmed with lace. Cuffs fastened with one button and lace-trimmed.

    A young child's hat or bonnet dated circa 1900-1920. It was handsewn. The crown is constructed of beige cotton netting with two scalloped layers of beige cotton netting added to the back of the bonnet. The brim is a wide band of gathered blue satin. Long blue satin ties and four loops of blue silk ribbon are sewn to the two layers of beige netting. The netting is also embroidered.
